You all know the old adage “you can’t see the forest for the trees”. I think when you work day after day in your business, sometimes, you need to take time off and get away from the forest. Get away from the desk and the papers. Leave the staff and the clients and the day to day glitches and the same four walls behind. You don’t have to go far away, although a nice beach in the midst of winter is always great, just go to a local park, take a walk and relax and enjoy the down time.
We took over the Las Vegas Convention Center and walked through the largest such trade show in the business. I learned about all the latest in microfiber cloths, mops, vacuums and other doo dads that you can only imagine. Manufacturers displayed all the newest chemicals that can be used on today’s surfaces and they showed us new and innovative packaging solutions.
ISSA presented Tony Hsieh who is the CEO of Zappos as their keynote speaker. He talked about creating a culture of excellence in his business. Zappos was kind enough to open their business for a backstage tour. I have never seen such a happy group of employees, all focused on customer service.
Duane Cashin gave a powerful speech. He spoke about his 5 part plan for business excellence. His acronym CRISP will stay with me for a long time. It stands for credibility, relevance, insight, selflessness and persistence. At Custom Maid we always strive to be credible in all our dealings. We consider honesty and trust between us and our clients as a guiding principle and it is utmost in our minds all the time. We participate in Cleaning for a Reason which means we help women undergoing treatment for cancer by cleaning their homes for free.
The bottom line is, I got away and came back totally renewed in mind and spirit. Look for great things from Custom Maid in the coming year!
