Sleeping Bags Need Gentle Attention So, the weather has finally cleared up and the summer will arrive soon. What better way to spend the weekend than camping? You can go to a national park. After a winter in the back of the closet or in the garage, the sleeping bags will need a little tender loving care. The best way to handle the job of cleaning your bags is in the bathtub. Use a mild fabric wash for hand washables. Work the suds in gently. Do not twist the sleeping bag as that will bunch up the down. Once the washing is done, rinse under running water until all the suds are gone. Keep shifting the bag under that faucet. You may have to wash the bag and rinse it several times until it comes completely clean.
On the final rinse, be sure you have removed all soap residue or it will attract new dirt faster.
Be sure to press out as much water as possible after the final rinse. DO NOT wring as that will mess up the down filling. Lay flat on a clean sheet in the yard on a bright, sunny, breezy day. You might want to take the damp sleeping bag to a commercial dryer and set it on a gentle cycle. Hint: toss in a tennis ball or two to keep the down nice and fluffy.
