Wash Your Car Once a Week

Other than your home, your most expensive asset is probably your vehicle.  So it is important to take good care of your car.  Experts say that you should wash your car once a week.  When you wash your car, start with the inside.  First get a trash bag and remove all the trash from your interior (fast food bags, empty water bottles etc.).  Then thoroughly vacuum the seats and the carpets.  Don’t forget the trunk.  The car mats should be removed and set on the driveway.  If they are rubber, they can be hosed down and scrubbed later.  If they are fabric then vacuum them, vacuum the floor of the car and replace them.

Then use a microfiber cloth dampened with a window cleaner to clean the inside of the windows.  Remember to lower them slightly so you can clean the top half inch of the window.  The dashboard will also need attention.  Many cars have touch screen displays these days.  you should not spray any cleaner directly at them.  Use a moistened cloth to remove fingerprints.

Move on to the Outside of the Car

When you get to the tires and rims, use a different sponge or cloth.  You can find a tire and rim cleaner at your local auto parts store.  For road tar, use WD40 to remove that.  Remember like removes like so the grease in WD40 will remove the grease in road tar.

Finish your hand car wash by drying the entire vehicle.  A chamois is the best way to accomplish that.  You may want to use a dressing such as ArmorAll on the dashboard and the tires.

An easier way to take care of keeping your car clean is to take it to a local car-wash.  There are many of them in Virginia Beach, alone.  For a few dollars, you can run your car through the automated system and it will come out looking great.  Some gas stations have attached car-washes to make the process even easier.  You will find full service establishments where someone will vacuum and clean the car’s interior.  Then it will run through the cleaning line and will be finished by hand drying.

Taking good care of your vehicle will keep it in good shape and give you a good excuse to get outdoors!

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
