Volunteers Are Always Needed and Appreciated
Do you have a few extra hours in the course of your week or your month? It might be time to consider a place to volunteer. There are so many opportunities in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake where your time and effort could be put to great use. Perhaps you are an animal lover. The SPCA is always looking for people to volunteer. You will find the Virginia Beach SPCA near the corner of Holland Road and Dam Neck Road.
When my grandkids were younger (much younger) I volunteered in their elementary school classrooms. The teachers are so overworked and have so many kids in their classes that they are thrilled to have an extra pair of hands. It made me feel like a million bucks when an adorable second grader looked up at me and said “Thank you, I finally understand this!”. I really melted. I would have been happy to pay for the experience!
Virginia Beach Has Tons of Volunteering Opportunities
I have a friend who volunteers at the Virginia Aquarium. The Aquarium sits on General Booth Boulevard about a mile from the oceanfront. She mostly stays near the touch pool area and shows the groups of school kids about horseshoe crabs and skates. The Shamrock Marathon which occurs every year around St. Patrick’s Day always looks for volunteers to man the water stops. It might be a little late for this year, but plan ahead.
The Virginia Beach Public Library relies on volunteers to shelve books and to read to kids. I frequent the Kempsville Branch of the library. I see the same fellow shelving books every time I visit. We have started chatting whenever I see him. It’s a great way to meet neighbors.
I am a member of an international trade association and I volunteer to serve on committees. It puts me in touch with people from all over the country so I get to do good deeds and keep in touch with far flung friends.
The bottom line is that volunteering gives back to you in warm feelings tenfold what you put in.
