Women Need to Be Aware of Breast Cancer

There Are Many Cancer Walks in October

Check your local paper or call the American Cancer Society for a list of breast cancer walks during the month.  You can collect sponsors who donate to the cause then you participate in the walk.  It’s a wonderful way to get some fresh air, sunshine and exercise.  Gather a group of neighbors, co-workers or church members and create a team.  Get colorful T-shirts so your team can be identified easily.

Cleaning For a Reason Helps Women With Cancer

Cleaning For a Reason is a non profit 501 (c) (3) foundation that provides free house cleaning to women undergoing treatment for cancer.  It was founded in 2006 by Debbie Sardone who owns a residential cleaning service in Dallas.  She was at a gathering of cleaning business owners from all across the United States.  She told the story of how she has a few clients who hired her since they could not clean their own homes due to the debilitating nature of chemo therapy.  Debbie’s heart went out to them and she started Cleaning for a Reason.  The rest is history.

Cleaning For a Reason now has over 1100 cleaning companies across the country who donate FREE cleaning to women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer.  Custom Maid is proud to be one of those companies.  If you know of a woman in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake or almost anywhere in the country who is undergoing cancer treatment, simply contact Cleaning For a Reason and they will refer the patient to Custom Maid.   It’s that easy!

Custom Maid and all Cleaning for a Reason partners donate a free cleaning to these women once a month for each of four months to get them through their treatment phase.  If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to this terrific non-profit, just go to their website.

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
