Yellow is the Color of the Season

Springtime is arriving in Virginia Beach.  I’ve been humming The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine for the last two days.  Today has been errand running day so I’ve been outdoors the whole day.  Every time I come back to my formerly gray car, I am taken by the fact that it has turned YELLOW!!!  Yellow pollen coats every surface from the car, to my front steps to my driveway and let’s not even talk about my windows.  Every year it seems to happen overnight.  One day it is winter and the next morning when I wake up the beautiful flowers, grass and tree buds are spewing their yellow pollen hither and yon (mostly hither!).  It is useless to try to do much with the outdoor pollen until it has run its course.  It will be a couple of weeks until it disappears, so why wash your car today when it will turn yellow again within an hour.  By the way, did I say AAAAAACHOOO!!!!!  Allergies really get me this time of year.  I can feel the pollen going into my nostrils as soon as I step outside.

How About Indoor Pollen?

Yellow may not fit your home décor.  In order to keep pollen out of your house, resist the urge to throw open your windows to let the fresh air in.  What you’ll be letting in is dust and pollen.  So keep the windows closed.  Remove shoes at the door so you don’t track pollen etc. through the house.  Dust more frequently than during the winter, especially window sills and anything near entry ways.  Use a microfiber cloth for dusting since it is the best way to pick up and remove small particulates.

Follow these easy steps and you may not be humming Yellow Submarine.  How about Sgt. Pepper’s instead!

One more thing!  This might just be the season you decide that you would much rather spend your time with leisure activities rather than keeping up with the dusting.  Custom Maid is at the ready to take over your weekly cleaning.  Call us at 499-8568 for quick information!

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
