Licensed Bonded Insured

Chances are, if you are in the market for someone to do work in or around your home, you have heard the claim licensed, bonded, insured.  Companies probably include it in all of the ads and web sites you are checking out.  But what exactly does this mean for you?

Licensed

A business should obtain a license from the city or county where they are located.  A license provides the means of collecting revenue for the municipality.  While it does show that a business operates above board, it does not mean anything to you, the homeowner.  Beware of hiring someone who does not have a business license.  That would mean they are working “under the table”.  They most likely do not pay any taxes and they do not carry insurance.

Bonded

The business buys bonding through its insurance agent.  Bonding guarantees that the people who will be working in your home are honest.  If  something goes missing from your home while the business has technicians there working, report it back to the owner of the business.  You will need to file a police report.  The bond will reimburse you for all proven losses.  The bond does not pay for accusations that do not result in an arrest, so it is prudent to put your valuables away. You should ask if the business does background checks and drug testing on its employees.

Insured

A business must carry several types of insurance.  Any company with three or more employees is required by the state to carry workers compensation insurance.  You should definitely ascertain that the service has this type insurance since it will protect you.  It means if any employees are hurt or injured on the job at your home, the workers comp will pay the medical bills and reimburse the employee for any lost wages.  You will not have to use your homeowners insurance to cover the incident.

You want to be sure the company you hire also carries liability insurance.  This reimburses you in case of breakage or damage to your home or property in the course of the job.

Ask a prospective cleaning company to prove they are licensed, bonded, insured.  Their agent will send you a certificate of insurance and the cleaning service can provide you with their city license number.

When hiring a house cleaning service ,  be sure they are licensed, bonded, insured and that they do background checks and drug testing on employees.  These questions will get you to the bottom line of which service to hire.

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
