Why Use a Cleaning Caddy?

When you finally buckle down for a day of cleaning, you must be organized.  Organization will save you buckets of time. (Excuse the pun!)  Get a sturdy cleaning caddy to begin.  With a carrier, you can gather all your cleaning supplies and small items in one place so you will not be wandering from room to room looking for a vacuum attachment or a bottle of window cleaner.  Professional cleaning technicians have been using caddies for decades.

What Chemicals Belong in Your Caddy?

I think the best way to answer this question is to sit quietly somewhere and imagine cleaning your bathroom.  Think of each surface that requires cleaning.  What chemical will you use to clean that surface?  Add that chemical to your caddy.  Keep your caddy as uncluttered as possible.  Try to use chemicals that can perform more than one task.  For example, you can buy a spray bottle of neutral cleaner that will clean most bathroom surfaces including mirrors and shower doors.  As a matter of fact, you will want more than one cleaning caddy.  One you will use in bathrooms and kitchen only.  The other caddy will take care of general cleaning like dusting and vacuuming.

A carrier for dusting and vacuuming does not need as many chemicals.  Something to shine glass tables and mirrors goes without saying.  You may want to use a furniture polish or cleaner, although a good microfiber cloth will remove dust from wood furniture without leaving a residue behind.

A Caddy Should Also Carry Cleaning Implements

Save room in the bathroom and kitchen bucket for other implements.  You need a firm scrub brush.  You can’t expect the chemicals to do all the work.  Some good, old fashioned elbow grease will help you remove dirt, grime etc.

These days, microfiber cloths do a great job at removing all kinds of dirt.  Carry several cloths in varying colors. Just be sure to pay attention and don’t use the same cloth in the bathroom as in the kitchen.  As a matter of fact, if you use one cloth on the toilet, do not use it on the bathroom counter or in the tub.

Sponges are a breeding ground for bacteria and germs.  If you must use sponges, wash them after every use.  You can run them through the dishwasher on the top shelf or briefly heat them in the microwave.  Most professional cleaning technicians do not use sponges at all anymore.  Another implement of a bygone era is the paper towel.  Paper towels are too expensive and are not environmentally responsible.  A squeegee is very handy for cleaning glass surfaces like mirrors, shower doors etc.  Many people keep a squeegee in their shower and wipe down the shower walls after every use.  This keeps soap scum from building up. and will diminish water spots.

Your caddy for dusting and vacuuming carries your vacuum attachments.  It should also have several microfiber cloths for dusting.  You’ll want one totally dry and a second moistened with plain water to remove sticky areas.

Now that you know just what to include in your cleaning caddy,  Why not decide to let the professional do the job for you.  Call Custom Maid at 499-8568 and our friendly office staff will answer all your questions about weekly or bi-weekly cleaning.  We also do move-in/move-out cleaning or just one time appointments.  Relax, let Custom Maid handle the tough work!

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
