Clean Some Items Daily

We probably all have some type of cleaning routine for our homes in general.  It’s probably something like cleaning the bathrooms every Saturday and vacuuming the whole house on Tuesdays.  But there are detail items in your home that you need to clean as well.  Your tooth brushes should be cleaned, of course, with each use.  Rinse the brush under running water to remove all debris and toothpaste.  There is no need to disinfect your toothbrushes.  You will want to replace them every three or four months as well as after you get over a cold.

You need to clean your eyeglass lenses every day to keep them in good condition longer.  Never wipe them with a dry cloth or paper towel.  To clean your glasses just warm soapy water will do the trick.  Swish them in a sink full of soapy water, rub the lenses with your wet fingers to loosen any debris then rinse under running water and dry with a soft cloth.  You may want to carry a solution made especially for cleaning lenses in your purse for convenience.

How to Clean Exercise Equipment

Assuming you use your equipment several times a week, then the bare minimum is to wipe off the seats and pads where there are probably sweat stains.  Use a disinfectant cleaner then wipe the equipment down with a soft cloth or paper towel.  For treadmills, use indoor shoes when walking or running.  You don’t want outdoor dirt and debris on the belt as it will hasten wear and tear.  Of course you will want to completely dust the equipment just as you dust furniture once a week or so.

Hair Care Items

Hair brushes need to be cleaned about once a month.  First remove all hair that has become entangled in the bristles.  Then fill the sink with warm soapy water and swish the brush.  Rinse it under running water and allow to air dry.  How about your hair dryer?  When is the last time you cleaned it?  About once a month, unscrew the back cover to reveal the filter screen.  Brush it with an old toothbrush (dry) to remove hair and dust then replace it.

Curling irons get all gunky with hair spray and gel.  To remove that build up, dampen a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover and clean the affected areas.  Once it is clean, dampen another cotton ball in plain water to rinse the curling iron.

Now your personal items will be as clean as your home, especially if you have Custom Maid come and clean weekly!  Call us at 757-499-8568.

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
