Enjoy the Beach, But Which One?

How to Choose the Right Beach for the Right Day

I love the beach.  But when I find time to spend a day there, I first have to decide which one suits my present mood.  It’s one of the nice things about living in Virginia Beach.  If I can steal time away on a week day, I always like the Oceanfront.  The boardwalk is always hopping with something or other going on.  Last Thursday I watched the city workers set up a stage for Latin Fest.  During the week, the sand is not quite as crowded as it is on the weekend.  You can easily find a space to lay out your chairs and towels right by the water front.Chesapeake VA, Chesapeake Virginia, Norfolk VA, Norfolk Virginia

On the weekend, I head to a place the tourists have not yet found: Sandbridge.  Parking is no problem and there is plenty of room to spread out your stuff.  You know the stuff I mean, especially if you are taking the kids along.  There are flip flops, boogie boards, shovels and pails as well as sun screen and books for rest time.  By the time you have staked your claim on the sand, you have taken a half acre!!  But you can sit comfortably under your umbrella and enjoy the relative quiet of this local beach.

A Beach For Those Who Want to Drive a Little Way

Of course, the Outer Banks of North Carolina are less than two hours away and offer a different vibe.  I find it to be a cross between the quiet of Sandbridge and the honky-tonk of Virginia Beach.

So, now that you have decided to take some time for the beach, who will be doing your weekend housecleaning chores?

  1. Loved this – I found myself thinking a lot more about sand and surf than house cleaning even though I co-own a cleaning business! I’m calling it a ‘busy-mind vacation’. Thanks.
