Morning caffeine is a ritual in many households. Some people even drink coffee all day long. But what about the care and cleaning of the coffee maker? Residue builds up in the area of the basket that holds the grounds. This type system is relatively easy to keep clean so that your beverage will always taste fresh and delicious. The carafe and the basket that holds the filter are dishwasher safe. Use a clean cloth to wipe out the receptacle where the filter goes.
Keurig coffee makers are a little more difficult to clean. These machines use pods called K-Cups. The machine has two needles that pierce the pre-filled cups on the top and the bottom so that heated water can flow through. The small basket that hold the K-Cup is removable and is dishwasher safe. Be careful when removing it as the needles are very sharp. Then raise the lid and you will see the sharp needle that pierces the top of the K-Cup. It has three holes in it for the water to pour through the coffee grounds inside. Very carefully use a straightened paperclip to poke into the three holes to clear any debris.
The platform where the cup sits is also removable and dishwasher safe. If you have a model with a reservoir, you have a filter which should be replaced every 6 months or so. Be careful to keep the reservoir clean. Fill it with vinegar and run that through the coffee maker. Then run a couple of reservoirs full of water to rinse.
If you follow these guidelines, you should be drinking excellent coffee every morning.
