As a professional cleaner, I can tell you that the old saw of cleaning the house before the cleaners come is still alive and kicking. A large number of households hire someone to clean their homes for them. The chief reason for this is time. There is just not enough time in a week or a month to do everything that needs to be done. You attend soccer games and ballet recitals, cook meals, do laundry and also take care of the house cleaning. So something’s got to give and very often the first item to go is the weekly cleaning.
But you begin to feel bad for the cleaners and so the night before they are due to arrive, you stay up cleaning. Please, folks, it’s not necessary. You are paying good money to have someone clean your home. Sure it is helpful if you pick up things that are strewn about, but DO NOT clean. It defeats the purpose of hiring someone in the first place. Our teams come prepared to deal with soap scum, soiled floors and dusty furniture. It’s our job to make your home sparkle and shine. What we are not prepared to do is organize a playroom full of toys, hang up clothing that is on the floor in the teenagers’ rooms or wash a sink full of dirty dishes.
I suggest that children, even at an early age can be given some cleaning related chores. A three year old can put some toys away in a toy box or basket. A child from 8 years old and up can be held responsible for hanging up clean clothes and putting soiled ones in the hamper. Dishes are a daily task, not a weekly one. If you and the family keep up with these easy organizational type chores, then the night before the cleaners are scheduled can be a relaxing time.
See you on cleaning day!!
