You Finally Hired a Housecleaner

For years you have been spending every weekend cleaning your house.  You have passed on tennis matches, days at the beach and family picnics.  You have spent all day Friday at work thinking about the cleaning you must do on Saturday. Maybe you tried assigning chores to the kids and spouse but that didn’t work out very well.

So you finally made the decision to hire a professional housecleaning company.  You did your due diligence online.  You spoke with three services and, after meeting with each of them, settled on one.  If you want to get the most bang for your buck, there are still a few little chores you will want to do.

Chores You Will Want To Do

Sink Should Be Clear of Dishes

First of all, you must remember that your housecleaners are there to clean.  They are not there to declutter or organize.  If you and your family are pretty good at putting things away after you use them, that will eliminate one of your pre-cleaning chores.  But if the kids’ rooms are strewn with clothes all over the bed and floors, that should be picked up.  It’s difficult to run a vacuum cleaner through piles of clothing.

In the kitchen, the cleaning team will be able to do a better job if the sink is clear of dirty dishes.  Most cleaning services do not do dishes, so you will want to put them in the dishwasher.   If there is food out on the counter, put it away.

Other Items to Consider

You probably have some valuable items in your home.  They may be expensive or they may be of sentimental value.  You should talk to your cleaning service when they come to your home for the walk through.  Your cleaners will be very careful and will handle your belongings as if they were their own.  But mishaps do happen from time to time.  Any items that are irreplaceable should be discussed.  You may give instructions not to touch that beloved item.  You may decide to put the item inside a hutch or curio cabinet to keep it safe.

If you want your cleaning team to change the linen on beds in rooms they clean, just leave out a pile of fresh sheets.  No need to strip the bed, the team will be happy to do that for you.

Just these few, quick chores before your team arrives will make cleaning day go really smoothly.  By the way, when you check online for a cleaning service, call Custom Maid at 499-8568.  We will be glad to come out, meet with you and give you a price for excellent cleaning!  Remember, at Custom Maid, we clean for both appearance and also for health.

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
