The Chesapeake Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism has planned many events this Spring that will get you and your family out of the house. Some of these activities include races of all different varieties. You can choose to run, kayak or bike on many weekends. Coming up on the second weekend in April will be the Dismal Swamp Stomp. Runners should come to the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail at 8:00 on Saturday, April 8th. You can choose a half marathon, a 5k run or a kids’ run.
If you are not into physical activity, you have plenty of choices. Come out and watch a race or two or take part in something a little less active like Food Truck Hump Days. Many of the local food truck operators show up at 1775 Historic Way in Chesapeake which is near the Great Bridge locks. You will find kids’ activities in addition to fabulous cuisine. This event happens on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from April through September from 4:00 to dusk.
From May 18 through 21 this year, the Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will be hosting the Chesapeake Jubilee. Among other things, it is a full blown carnival. You will find plenty of festival-type food and fun and activities for the whole family.
