President of Custom Maid Attends Annual Cleaning Convention

I founded Custom Maid of Virginia Beach in 1985.  I recently traveled to Las Vegas to attend the   ARCSI  annual convention.  ARCSI represents the residential cleaning industry as their trade association.   The convention occurred in conjunction with the ISSA   Trade Show.   The experience provided many educational opportunities for me.  For example, the trade show presented the most up-to-date supplies and equipment in the cleaning industry.   I had the opportunity to mingle with experts in all aspects of cleaning.

Residential cleaning deals with much more than just a mop and a vacuum cleaner.  It involves learning the science of chemicals.

Cleaning technicians must have a knowledge of all kinds of surfaces.  A tech must know how to clean everything from marble to delicate fabrics.  She trains to know how to take great care of fine furniture.  I came back from the convention with lots of good information to pass on to my staff.

Other Features of the ARCSI Convention

I particularly enjoyed Jay Leno who presented the keynote speech.  Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank fame  gave the second keynote.

I attended the Workforce Summit  which was a major educational session.  The day-long event dealt with how to manage a professional cleaning staff.   Being an entrepreneur means dealing with employee issues.  The Summit took up the entire first day of the convention.  I learned how to handle many key employee issues.

Attendees learned about a new faction in our workforce known as millenials.  Millenials are considered to be people who were born between about 1990 and 2010.  They  evidently think and behave differently from previous generations.  I have two twenty-something nephews and they approach everything in a much different way than the baby boomers I know. They spend their money differently and look at life from a much different slant.   Entrepreneurs must know how to manage their younger staff members.  Also, our customer base is going to become increasingly young.

Rich Galen is a well known political operative who has worked with Dan Quayle and Newt Gingrich.  Galen often appears on CNN and MSNBC as a commentator.  His discussion dealt with the upcoming election and stories of his years in the political arena.

Palmer Was Honored By ARCSI as Outgoing Board Member

I served on the Board of Directors of  ARCSI since October of 2006.  I held the post of President from 2008 to 2010 and again in 2014.  During a ceremony at the annual meeting, ARCSI recognized me for my service . I felt humbled and honored.   The Members’ Resource Library will be known as the Alison Palmer Members’ Resource Library.  The library houses a virtual collection of written, audio and video subjects that relate to the cleaning business.

Custom Maid  serves clients in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake.  Our technicians use the most up-to-date supplies and equipment.  We train our staff on how to deal with various cleaning issues.  Call us for information on weekly or bi-weekly house cleaning. 499-8568

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
